What would happen if the US just walked away from its China debt?

As we're all talking about the huge bailout being proposed, it got me thinking about our national debt, and what we might be able to do about it. So, what would happen if we, say, just told China that we aren't interested in paying back our debt to them?

Defaulting on debt will have these consequences:
1) Foreign loans will cease over night. Since our economy is based on spending the money we don't have, we will immediately run out of funds. Economy will contract severely, with interest rate
